Health Advice
One day on the trail equals eight days of good health (an old walking saying).
You do not need to be especially sporty to enjoy our walks, but a basic level of fitness will help you make the most of your trip. The best approach is to walk as much as you can in your daily life. If that is not always possible, try to stay more active in the month before you leave: take the stairs instead of the lift, walk to the shops, and look for every chance to get on your feet.
Once on the trail, take sensible precautions to avoid accidents. Stick to the waymarked paths. Before setting out each morning, check the weather forecast, especially in mountain areas.
Pack a basic first aid kit with:
- Antiseptic
- Adhesive tape
- Eye drops
- Sun cream
- Blister plasters (such as Compeed or similar)
- Painkillers (e.g. aspirin or paracetamol)
- Plasters of various sizes
- Small scissors, a needle and tweezers
- Anti-chafing cream, such as NOK cream
Homeopathy:
- For muscle soreness or aching legs, try Arnica 5 CH: 3 granules, three times a day.
- For early signs of tendinitis, try Ruta Graveolens 5 CH: 3 granules, three times a day.
If in doubt, ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice before your trip. They can recommend remedies that may be useful while you are walking.
